Along the Eastern side of the property you will find a 3 acre remnant of the original Big Scrub rainforest, which was the largest expanse of lowland subtropical rainforest in Australia, covering over 75,000 acres around Byron Bay, Ballina and Lismore. Sadly, over time most of it was cleared for agriculture, and now only 1% of the original rainforest remains.
Part of our vision for
the property is the re-generation of rainforest by replanting and nurturing
another nine acres of trees, working alongside the Big Scrub Conservancy to
ensure that the best results will be achieved.
Over time, as the
regeneration takes hold, guests will be able to take walking trails which will
wind through the sections of rainforest (both new and old), and have a chance
to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of being surrounded by the trees,
birds and other wildlife that make up the Big Scrub.
